Green Infrastructure can be described as a strategic network of accessible, multifunctional green spaces, or assets, positively managed to deliver a wide range of benefits to existing and future populations. The idea is to conserve, create, link and enhance assets during development in order to meet the needs of sustainable communities, both today and in the long term.
This website has been developed as part of the West of England Partnership's work to develop a Green Infrastructure strategy.
The website is intended to be used by members of the public, planners, developers and anyone who has an interest in the provision of Green Infrastructure in their local area.
The Green Infrastructure approach advocated is not about constraining development but is about providing planners, developers and other professionals with a tool with which to inform their decisions and also to help put in place a powerful green space network able to deliver significant benefits to new residents and existing communities.
The GI Tool, accessed on the right of this page, presents opportunities for the enhancement and creation of Green Infrastructure in the West of England. It should be noted that the "opportunities" presented here are not a definative list of projects and will evolve over time. There is also no committment for the delivery of the opportunities presented but rather they are intended to increase awareness of the possibilities for improving Green Infrastructure provision.
